Following the initial consultation, an acupuncture treatment usually lasts 45-60 minutes however this can vary depending on your treatment plan. Needles are retained anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, varying from person to person.
The needles used are much thinner than those used for injections and not much thicker than a human hair. Needles are inserted quickly with most clients reporting little to no discomfort. Some describe a mild warmth, tingling or heaviness although this usually dissipates after a few seconds.
Once all the needles are in place, you will be able to relax and you may even fall asleep!
It is advisable to eat a light snack prior to treatment so as not to arrive on an empty stomach. Following treatment, it is recommended you do not participate in any strenuous physical activity, rest where possible, and drink plenty of water.
Where possible, please wear loose, comfortable clothing that can easily be moved to access arms and legs. For example, tracksuit bottoms, shorts, t-shirts and vests. However, these are not essential. Please rest assured privacy and comfort are always maintained.
A recommended course of treatment lasts 5-8 sessions however this can vary from person to person and is dependent on their individual treatment plan.
Following an initial course of acupuncture and as symptoms improve, maintenance treatments may be recommended and may be stretched from twice a month or maybe once every six months depending on how your condition has responded to treatment.
